Mercedes is busy prepping a full onslaught of models for launch and among them are the electric models which are plenty. The latest to join the long list is the AMG EQE 53 4matic+. The new AMG EQE 53 4matic+ joins the earlier unveiled standard EQE saloon.
Point to note is that although Mercedes AMG is busy preparing two versions for launch, the EQE AMG 43 4matic+ and EQE AMG 53+ 4matic the former however will not be launched in the UK while the later will arrive later this year.
Hence the AMG EQE 53 4matic+ which will be available in the UK will be the fully blown out version rather than the entry level version. What that means for enthusiasts is that the four door sports saloon will produce 626hp and 950Nm torque with 0-100 km/h rated at 3.5 seconds and top speed of 220 km/h seconds.
Now if you think that doesn’t entirely blow you away, the dynamic plus package will, it produces in excess of 687 hp and 1000 Nm torque, with 0-100 km/h rated at 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 240 km/h.
Both versions however use a 90kwh battery pack and the battery pack is expected to deliver between 448-518 miles under the WLTP cycle.
The new Mercedes AMG EQE’s design philosophy doesn’t stray too far from the standard saloon. The design overall actually resembles the standard EQE which itself resembles the larger EQS in profile. However that having said that the AMG EQE gets its own styling bits such as black panel grille with stamped vertical struts in chrome, large chrome logo, and standard digital light LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights and more.
The front bumper however is now painted in body colour unlike a different colour in the standard car and although the air intakes lower down are fake the front splitter painted in black isn’t.
The side profile is similar to that of the conventional EQE, but the AMG-specific alloy wheels lend a sense of optimism. There’s a choice of 20 and 21-inch alloy wheels on offer. In addition there are air diffusers in gloss black on either side for the air curtain effect and improve drag. The rear on the other hand adds optimized diffusers and a large rear spoiler round off the dynamic appearance.
The interior shares the standard interior and dashboard layout from the standard EQE; however the AMG EQE receives subtle specific elements for an even sportier look. First of all there is a new AMG twin spoke steering wheel wrapped in Nappa leather with a flat bottom as standard however heated function is an option.
The seats get new AMG badges on the backrest of the front seats with embossed AMG emblems on the front seat head restraints. The dashboard on the flipside gets Artico man made leather with microcut microfibre and red stitching as standard, alternatively buyers can also opt for Nappa leather. It also gets AMG sport pedals, AMG floor mats and door sill trims with AMG lettering.
Mercedes AMG is also offering an optional hyper screen infotainment system for the passenger at the front, the hyper screen offers a range of functions including internet surfing, viewing films, text messages and more. The hyper screen also gets the blanking function first seen on the EQS meaning it automatically blanks out from the drivers vision yet remains attractive eye catcher with a new AMG specific screensaver.
Being an AMG, of course you do get the functions that emphasize performance true of the instrument cluster, multimedia display and heads up display. Owners will also get quick access to AMG dynamic select drive programs by the corresponding direct entry button in the centre console.
The German luxury automaker also has added adaptive air suspension to the AMG EQE 53 4matic+ that can lower the car by upto 15mm for more aerodynamics.
Another major upgrade have got to be the brakes, as standard 450mm at the back and 378mm disc at the front are on offer but you can add huge 450mm disc at the front but as an option but 21 inch wheels would be required to fit them of course.
Mercedes AMG also seems to have claimed to deliver an emotional sound spectrum for a unique driving experience. The sound system with the help of special speakers, bass actuator and sound generators create a unique sound experience.
The tonality and intensity of this exclusive AMG sound experience is tuned to the current driving status, the selected drive program or drivers wishes, both inside and out. Owners of the AMG EQE 53 equipped with dynamic plus package can choose between Authentic and optional Performance programs with three variants each

"With two new models, we are expanding our range with purely electrically powered performance vehicles and are thus addressing additional target groups. The EQE 43 4MATIC is the entry-level model for electric Driving Performance from Mercedes-AMG. The EQE 53 4MATIC+, on the other hand, focuses on even more sportiness and greater driving dynamics. And that's not the end of our Future of Driving Performance: After performance hybrids and all-electric AMG derivatives based on EVA2, stand-alone AMG electric vehicles will follow in the not too distant future. These are based on AMG.EA, our new, completely in-house-developed platform," says Philipp Schiemer, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.
The new AMG EQE 53 4matic+ is expected to launch somewhere towards the end of this year or early next year, but considering the standard EQE itself in on the launch cards, we say don’t pull out those cheque books just yet.
