Global NCAP has revealed that the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger have secured four star rating in their latest round of crash tests. An important point to note is that both models have been tested in their base spec trim and come with bare minimum safety features. Tested in their base trims only, the Nissan Magnite comes with two frontal airbags, ABS but misses out on ESC, ISOFIX child seat anchorages and head impact protection. The Renault Kiger on the other hand comes with two airbags, ABS, lap belt, side impact protection as standard but misses out on ESC but gains an advantage over its twin model by offering ISOFIX anchorages which sadly are not visible to the naked eye due to seat fabric. Nissan Magnite has shown a stable structure and marginal protection to the driver’s chest during its assessment. The Magnite is also said to be sold with a lap belt in the rear centre instead of three point belts.
The Renault Kiger on the other hand achieved four stars for adult and two stars for child occupant protection. During its achievement it showed an unstable structure with marginal protection to the driver’s chest. The Renault Kiger, which shares platform with the Nissan Magnite, achieved four stars for adult and two stars for child occupant protection. The Kiger was tested in its most basic safety spec fitted with two frontal airbags and ABS. During the assessment it showed an unstable structure and marginal protection to the driver’s chest.
