First cable installed on India’s second largest cable strayed bridge

The first ever cable holding the deck slabs of the new Zuari Bridge has been installed by the contractor assigned with the constriction of the bridge. The cable was installed by Dillip Buildcon officials along with Dillip Buildcon PWD minister along with other dignified officials.

The cable is one of the many cables each pillar will hold so as to hold the cable strayed bridge in place. Earlier expected to be completed in December 2019, it was delayed for many reasons apart from the unexpected occurrence of the COVID 19 pandemic.

That aside, the bridge is now progressing fast and is now expected to open for traffic in May 2021. An important point to note here is only one four lane road of the total eight lanes will be thrown open for public in the initial stage, while the other lanes will be opened at a later stage.

So far the flyover decks and deck wings on the Cortalim side are almost completed and so are the service roads as well. The new bridge being constructed with the aim of the reducing the burden on the existing and fast depleting existing Zuari Bridge will also be easing the commute from Panjim to Margao and Vasco to Panjim and back.

The new bridge is said to originate from Keserval slope and end at Bambolim will be having two elevated bypass at Aagasiam and Bambolim. It will also have flyovers and access ramps at various important junctions for easy embankment and disemberkment of vehicular traffic.
