Bajaj two wheelers have been long awaited to announce an entry into the scooter segment, However 14 years after it served thousands of families and happy generations; the iconic Chetak is back in the market with a commercial launch scheduled for 2020.
The 2020 Chetak electric adopts a modern design language and a full metal body with plenty of curves and retro touches. Also part of the package is a round LED headlight with a daytime running light, scrolling LED blinker, a circular instrument cluster, feather soft switchgear and a mobile charging socket.
The instrument cluster comes loaded with connected technology such as receiving notifications in case of an accident, protection in case of theft, providing helpful riding tips, providing protection in case of theft. As with many connected vehicles these days an app should very well be expected to support the tech as well.
Powering the scooter is a IP67 rated battery pack that can be charged conveniently using a standard 5-15 amp outlet. It will come with two riding modes – Eco and Sport and while Eco gives out a dirving range of 95kmph, sport mode offers 85kmph. Regenerative braking is also part of the package of the scooter.

The Bajaj Chetak when launched will surely take on its formidable rival the Ather 450 which is the only other electric scooter on sale in the Indian market today. A worthy mention though is that the launch will take place phase wise with Pune being the first market to receive the scooter, followed by Bangalore which means a launch in Goa is still some time away.
