BMW has launched the new 2 Series Gran Coupe in the Indian market. Priced at Rs 39.30 lakhs (ex showroom) the new 2 Series Gran Coupe sits below the 3 series and is the most affordable model in BMW’s line-up.
Buyers can get theirs in two versions M Sport and Sport line. It measures in at 4,526mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,420mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,670mm and rides on 225/45 section tyres with double spoke bi-colouR17 alloy wheels on the Sport line and 225/40 section tyres with double spoke bi-colour R18 alloy wheels in the M Sport
The sedan overall has a distinct design with a coupe like roofline and low centre of gravity. The front end looks stunning with the low slung bonnet and the distinctly styled LED headlights, the kidney grille at the front is not too large and looks perfectly shaped for its size. The bumper lower down gets gloss black c-shaped elements near the daytime ruing lights and a black honeycomb air dam as well.
The side profile has an interesting profile with the slopping roofline blending well in the four door coupe. The frameless doors are sure to grab your attention and so are the alloy wheels as well.
The rear however with its slim fitting LED taillights and high boot lid ends up looking a little stubby; however the several cuts and creases in the design break the mass well, while the dual exhausts complete the look.
The interior of the 2 Series Gran Coupe comes finished in typical BMW style with high quality materials and black and beige dual tone colours; however the main highlight is at the dashboard with the 10.25 inch touchscreen which is angled towards the driver for easier access while on the road. It also gets a digital instrument cluster that has been designed well in an age of digital clusters.
Space on the inside is pretty decent with good headroom and legroom in the cabin, while at the rear the overall space is decent but taller passengers will find headroom a little tight thanks to the slopping roofline. Boot space stands at 430 litres and can be further extended to with the 60:40 split seat option.
Talking about features, the 2 series Gran Coupe comes pretty loaded with kit like LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, BMW logo projection from wing mirrors, backlit door handles, automatic headlights and wipers, 2 zone climate control, 6 colour ambient lighting and electric adjustment for front driver and passenger seats with memory function.
The 10.25 inch infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity with handsfree audio streaming and USB connectivity. There’s also wireless Android Auto, BMW virtual assistant activated by “HEY BMW” voice command, BMW gesture control, navigation with 3D maps, latest I-drive control with hand writing recognition and direct access buttons. A total 6 speakers sound system is on offer in the Sport line trim and 10 speakers hi-fi loudspeaker system in the M Sport variant is on offer.
Under the hood the 2 Series Gran Coupe comes powered by just one engine option which is a 2.0 litre diesel motor. It churns out 190hp and 400Nm of torque and comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
BMW has also packed in 6 airbags, dynamic stability control, cornering braking control, electronic vehicle immobilizer, BMW intelligent management system, ABS with braking control, dynamic traction control, electronic differential lock, ISOFIX child seat mounting, tyre pressure monitoring system and crash sensors as part of the safety kit in the 2 series Gran Coupe.
In terms of paint schemes, BMW is offering 7 paint scheme options which are
Alpine white
Black Sapphire
Melbourne Red
Seaside Blue ( Sport line only)
Storm Grey
Misano Blue ( M Sport only)
Snapper Rocks ( M Sport only)
The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe at the moment has no real competition with the only rival present is the Audi Q2 (which is an SUV of course), while the real rival the Mercedes A Class will arrive around the festive season.
