Hyundai launched yet another model in the country; however this time it’s a facelift. The car we are talking about is the Elantra facelift that has been launched at Rs 15.89 lakhs (ex showroom prices).
The new 2019 Elantra gets a sportier appearance combined with a design that brings it more in-line with the latest design philosophy followed by Hyundai. Upfront it gets sleek new headlamps that house quad projector and daytime running lights flanked by a sharper hexagonal grille. The bumper design is new to and gets new triangle shaped lights that interestingly houses the side indicators along with bigger air curtains. The side profile further evokes the coupe like roofline with a crispier drop into the boot, while the 16–inch alloy wheels are also new. The rear gets a set of stylish yet sporty combination lamps along with Elantra badging in bold along the boot, while the reverse lights have been moved further down into the redesigned rear bumper.
The cabin on the other hand drops the all black theme of the earlier car and instead gets a new black and beige interior scheme along with aluminium or silver accents. Also new to the cabin of the new Elantra is the new steering wheel, new instrument cluster, air con vents and new seat upholstery as well.
In terms of features, the 2019 Elantra adds wireless charging, new ventilated seats at front, electric sunroof, 8-speaker Infinity sound system with door centre speakers with subwoofer, amplifier and tweeters, allumium pedals, 10-way adjustable driver seat with electric lumbar support and cruise control. It also gets 8.0 inch touchscreen infortainment system with Androids Auto, Apple CarPlay and Navigation and Blue Link connectivity from the Venue.
The Blue link connectivity comes with in-built tamper proof Vodaphone esim technology and a cloud based voice recognition platform from Global AI Company. Hence the 2019 Elantra is packaged with 34 features and 10 of which are India exclusive features – something is similar to the Venue. Blue Link is being offered as a complimentary service for the first 3 years, post which customers will have to renew the services.
Powering the car is a sole petrol engine as the Korean car maker has dropped the diesel engine for good. The petrol motor on offer is a 2.0 litre petrol engine that puts out 152ps at 6200rpm and 19.6 Nm of torque at 4000rpm. Transmission options include 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic.
In terms of safety, it gets tyre pressure monitoring system, inner rear view mirror with telematics switches, front and rear parking sensors with camera, burglar alarm, hill assist control, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, rear defogger with timer, front auto defogger, headlamp escort function, speed alert system along with front and rear disc brakes.
Standard features on the other hand include ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child safety seats, seatbelt reminder, rear parking sensors, speed sensing auto door lock/unlock and six airbags.
