Hyundai launches Venue Sport, Venue iMT launched

Hyundai has launched the country’s first Intelligent Manual Transmission in the Indian market. The clutchles manual gearbox technology marks its debut with the Korean automaker in the Venue compact SUV.

Let’s make things simple, Hyundai is offering the Venue Sport on the top three trims -SX, SX+ and SX (O) along with a 1.0 litre T-GDI petrol engine or a 1.5 litre diesel engine. The IMT on the other hand is limited to just the 1.0 litre T-GDI petrol engine for now.

Hyundai has also introduced a new Sport trim for the Venue, adding to the appeal is a new grey exterior paint scheme along with subtle red accents for the gloss black front grille, wheel arches, lower door portions and roof rails. It must also be noted that the front grille and roof rails come finished in dark grey and the brake callipers receive red finish. On the inside you get a new steering wheel along with sporty pedals and red accents for seat upholstery, air con control rings and elsewhere around the cabin.

IMT or intelligent manual transmission works just in tandem of an automatic or two pedal technology transmissions; however it features sensor, a hydraulic actuator and transmission control unit on the gearlever to help it shift pricelessly.

Here’s how the IMT Intelligent manual gearbox works –

1. Transmission Control Unit receives signal from TGS Lever Intention Sensor, indicating drivers desire to change gears.

2. TCU sends signal to engage Hydraulic Actuator forming Hydraulic Pressure.

3. Hydraulic Pressure is then sent to Concentric Slave Cylinder (CSC) through Clutch Tube.

4. Concentric Slave Cylinder uses this pressure to control the clutch and pressure plate, thereby engaging and disengaging the clutch.

5. Driver is able to seamlessly shift gears without the need to mechanically operate clutch pedal.

Mechanically the Venue Sport employs a 1.0 litre Turbo GDi petrol motor that churns out 120PS and 171Nm of torque. This engine now comes mated to a 6-speed IMT gearbox as standard.

Commenting on the announcement, Mr. SS Kim, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motor India Ltd., said, “Hyundai has been driving the adoption of new and innovative technologies at scale. With our Future Ready business strategy, we have been continuously striving for customer delight with Human centric technologies that present our innate understanding of what our customers’ desire. IMT is one such technology that accounts for pleasure of driving and also the convenience needed to ease the hectic burden of daily commutes. This unparalleled drive experience on Hyundai VENUE – India’s First Connected SUV has been curated through a constant pursuit of innovation for Customer Delight.”
