Hyundai’s new generation i20 images leak ahead of unveil

Hyundai may have had to delay the unveil of the new i20 hatchback due the unforeseen pandemic crisis, however official images of the production ready car have leaked online thus revealing the car completely.

The new generation i20 now offers increased length by 5mm, width by 30mm, has a wheelbase that’s got longer by 10mm but gets a lowered roof by 24mm. It now measures 4040mm in length, 1750mm in width, 1450mm in height and uses a wheelbase measuring 2850mm. The car offers 351 litres of boot space and rides on newly designed 17-inch alloy wheels.

Employing the design known as Sensuous Sportiness by Hyundai, the new i20 appears a lot more sporty and radical than before together with a hunkered down stance and cuts and creases in the plenty. The face looks wide with the muscle lines on the bonnet flanked by angular LED headlights that merges with the cascading grille. The bumper gets a dual tone finish with the blacked out air dam looking more like a lip spoiler.

The side view reveals a large glasshouse similar to the one on the current car however there’s an interesting chrome beltline that rises along the window line to the roof from the c-pillar. A closer look further reveals a wedge like design along the doors and large alloy wheels. The rear receives an Altroz like blacked out element along with funky looking Z-shaped LED taillights connected via a light bar and a large diffuser in the bumper.

The cabin follows a modern and very business kind of look with driver centric layout for ease of use while driving. The touchscreen infortainment system is a 10.25 inch unit and so is the instrument console which is now a full digital screen. A new four spoke steering wheel takes centre stage and comes with several controls placed on it as well. Also interesting in the dashboard are slim horizontal lines which essentially is the continuation of the air con vents that run the length of the dashboard although it’s just a four vent unit.

In terms of features, the new i20 gets LED headlights with daytime running lights, LED taillights, wireless charging, push button start/stop, automatic climate control ambient lighting and an optional 8-speaker BOSE sound system.

The 10.25 inch touchscreen infortainment system now comes with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Blu Link telematics is also part of the package in the new i20. On the safety front it gets intelligent speed limit information display, Navigation based cruise control among many more.
