Muktar Automobiles, the dealer partners for Mahindra vehicles in Goa, has launched the much awaited XUV 3OO in Goa. Prices for the sub compact SUV start at Rs. 7.89 lac for the Petrol W4 variant and Rs. 8.49 lac for the Diesel W4 variant (one price applicable across India).
The XUV 3OO comes in four variants, – W4, W6, W8 and W8 optional. It gets 6 monotone colours and 2 dual tone colours. The monotone colour options include Red Rage, Aqua Marine, Sunburst Orange, Pearl white, Napoli black and D-sat silver. The dual tone colours are white roof with red rage and Aqua Marine with white roof.
There’s no secret that the XUV 3OO is based on the SSanyong Tivoli, but that it bears little resemblance to the former makes for a better impression. However the cheetah inspired XUV 3OO receives an aggressive chrome grille upfront along with angular projector headlamps that get daytime running lights which extend into the fog lamp housing. Moving over to the side, you begin to notice how compact the XUV 3OO is, also but bits like the flared wheel arches at the rear, floating roof and roof rails does add a sense of style. At the rear there’s a nicely designed tailgate that gets a roof spoiler as well with full LED taillamps and a large skid plate.

The interior comes well appointed with leatherette upholstery along with black and beige colour scheme for the cabin. The seats are well placed and while you do get a good view out, headroom could be an issue for taller passengers’ especially at the rear. Mahindra has also cleverly tucked in some usable storage spaces in the car, there’s one in the dashboard infront of the front passenger, one in the armrest, one next to the gearlever and in the door pads. The boot space stands at 265 litres and if that isn’t enough, the 60:40 split folding second row of seats to free up more room for the luggage.
A large 7-inch touchscreen system that also doubles up as reverse parking camera takes care of the inforrtainment duties and gets Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and GPS navigation. It also gets Ecosense technology with social media connectivity and blue sense app with smart watch connectivity.
Mahindra has loaded the XUV 3OO with features many of which are first in class and offered for the first time. The feature list includes push button start/stop, auto dimming inner rear view mirror, tyre position display, cruise control electric sunroof with anti-pinch, height adjustable headrests, illuminated glovebox, front parking sensors, power folding wing mirrors with turn indicators along with rain sensing wipers and smart lights.
Powering the sub compact SUV is a 1.2 litre petrol turbo changed engine that produces 110 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. The diesel on the other hand is a 1.5 litre unit that churns out 115 bhp and 300 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual transmission for both engines, and while there’s no automatic on offer yet. An AMT gearbox is said to be in the works and will be offered in the future.
Safety and security have also been paid attention to by the home-grown car manufacturer with many first in segment features offered once again. It gets 7- airbags, front parking sensors, Electronic stability program with roll over mitigation, hill start assist, tyre pressure and monitoring system and ISOFIX child safety mounts. ABS with EBD and seatbelt reminder for all seat are standard offering.
Talking about the competition the Mahindra XUV 3OO takes on the Tata Nexon, Ford Ecosport and the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
