Maruti Suzuki Ciaz moves on to become the best selling premium sedan in India

Another day, Another Maruti Suzuki sedan, just a few days after the 3rd generation Dzire hit became the fastest selling sedan to hit 3 lakh sales, the Ciaz topped out the sales charts and went on to become the best selling premium sedan in the Indian market.

In a press statement, Maruti Suzuki has stated that the Ciaz has sold well over 2, 34,000 units since its launch in 2014, which got doubled following the arrival of the facelift in August 2018. The update saw a comprehensive makeover where in the midsize sedan received an array of new features along with a new front grille, LED headlamps and new alloy wheels. The cabin also received an update and featured faux wood along with new upholstery trim for the seats.

The Ciaz sales have crossed 24,000 units during the months from April to September with the sedan commanding 28.8% market share in the premium sedan segment and also commanding 10,000 bookings in the first month itself

Commenting on the success of New Ciaz, Mr. R S Kalsi, Senior Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India, said “We are delighted with the response to the new Ciaz. Over 10,000 customers have booked the New Ciaz in the first month of its launch. The complete package of unmatched performance, bold looks, elite interiors, convenience of space and host of safety features clearly pulls the new Ciaz ahead of competition. Today, Ciaz is one of the most successful premium sedans in India. With a sale of over 24,000 units in the first half of this fiscal, Ciaz has taken the pole position in the A3+ segment this year so far. We are thankful to customers for their confidence and choice that reinforces our commitment to offer premium products.”

Powering the sedan is a 1.5 litre petrol smart hybrid motor that produces 77KW and 138 Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a Lithium ion battery that sits under the front seats, while the 1.3 litre diesel puts out 66 KW and 200 Nm of torque. Transmission options included a 5–speed transmission on both engines, while a 4-speed auto is offered on the petrol.

The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz goes head on with the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento, Nissan Sunny and Toyota Yaris.
