The highly anticipated 1.5 litre Ciaz diesel has finally been launched at a price tag of Rs 9.97 Lakhs (ex shwroom). This latest move by Maruri Suzuki marks the company’s entry into producing its own in house developed diesel engines.

We are confident that introduction of this new engine will further strengthen our portfolio and help in popularity of our cars.”
The new 1.5 litre diesel will also replace the 1.3 litre Fiat sourced mill from Maruti Suzuki’s diesel engine line-up in a phased manner. The powertrain introduced by the automaker is an aluminium unit which makes use of a dual mass flywheel along with optimized compression ratios to reduce engine fluctuations, noise and vibration levels ideally found in most diesel cars.
The motor in the Ciaz churns out 94bhp at 4000rpm and 225 Nm of torque at 1500-2500rpm of torque. The engine makes use of lightweight allumium casted cylinder head and block along with optimized engine calibration to be able to deliver a class leading economy of 26.82 kmpl.
The new 6-speed transmission has also made its debut with the new engine thus ditching the earlier 5-speed unit used on the 1.3 litre diesel. The new 6-speed been designed to ensure a smooth drive and light gear shift feel.
For ease of manoeuvrability, the position of the reverse gear has been relocated next to the 1st gear to reduce hand motion during tight parking conditions. Expect the new 6-speed gearbox to make it to other models in Maruti Suzuki’s range as well.
