Renault has just released a first image teasing facelifted Kwid hatchback ahead of its impending launch by month end. The automaker has also released a teaser video showing off the LED headlamps and taillamps.
Seen in the image is the Kwid Climber which follows the new trend of split headlamps upfront. Apart from the split headlamps, it also gets a new grille with a chunkier Renault logo and new front bumpers. Exclusive to the Climber variant here are the headlamp enclosures and wing mirrors along with Climber sticker along the sides. The teaser video released by Renault has showcased the LED headlamps and taillamps for the first time, a feature that will be available on the standard Kwid as well.
The interiors are still under wraps but we can safely assume a number of updates to the cabin. Apart from new colour schemes for the dashboard and updated upholstery, Renault is also very well expected to make the Kwid richer on features and tech to help it have an edge over the competition. Colour coded interior bits could also be part of the package especially in the Climber variant.
Under the hood the updated Kwid range will come with the same 54hp 0.8 litre and 68hp 1.0 litre petrol engines. However whether these engines will be updated to BS6 norms or not is unclear. Transmission options could most likely include the 5-speed manual or AMT as before.
The Renault Kwid goes up against the likes of the Datsun Go, Hyundai Santro and Maruti Alto in its market positioning. However it would be interesting to see how the facelift version fares in the market considering Maruti Suzuki will be launching the S-Presso and Datsun bringing in CVT version of their hatchback the Datsun Go.
Another interesting space to watch would be the pricing strategy Renault is expected to follow considering the increased competition in the market. However stay tuned for more details on this hot news soon.
