Renault previews Kiger compact SUV in concept form

Renault India has previewed its upcoming sub compact SUV, the Kiger, ahead of its launch sometime in 2021. Revealed in concept form, the Kiger is set to take on the fight with the whole range of products including the freshly launching Nissan Magnite.

Talking about design, the Renault Kiger gets distinctive design with a crossover like profile; the concept hints at a dual headlamp setup with sharply styled daytime running lights and three individually set headlights. Seen further upfront is the large winged dual slat grille with oversized Renault logo.

Pointing at a healthy ground clearance on the production car is the 210mm ground clearance on the concept version. Also seen are the large rugged 19-inch alloy wheels that look great. Other highlights include muscular haunches and thick side cladding which are important for SUV DNA.

The rear takes the design to a whole new level with unique looking tailgate with opposite C-shaped LED taillights that pop out of the body, while the central exhausts system with neon highlights and large roof spoiler add to the overall design.

Renault has not yet shown the interior of the Kiger, but we expect it to resemble a lot from the Triber compact MPV. Spy shots have revealed a large touchscreen infotainment system, rotary A/C controls, steering mounted controls and rear wiper to be part of the package.

Built on the CMF-A platform, the Kiger will resemble 80% of the concept in real world when it launches says Renault. The automaker has also informed that the Kiger has been jointly developed by the corporate design teams in France and Renault India design, the vehicle has been developed in keeping with the evolving preferences and expectations of Indian customers and the changing market trends.

Engine options will most likely include a 1.0 litre turbo petrol motor that will also be available on the Triber in the not so distant future.

Although this is just the reveal of the concept, Renault says the Kiger will launch in first half of 2021, however rumours float that the car will arrive by first week of January with an aggressive price tag as well.

The Renault Kiger will take on the Nissan Magnite, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV3OO, Ford Ecosport, Honda WR-V, Hyundai Venue and the Kia Sonet.
