The Hyundai Creta has always been a blockbuster for Hyundai not just in India but overseas as well. The second generation model however has just been launched at Rs 9.99 lakhs (ex showroom) and can be had in 14 different variants to choose from.
Armed with an all new design that is radical, stylish and actually moved a step ahead from its fluidic design language followed by Hyundai; however the overall profile still stays recognizable as a Creta. Upfront it gets split headlamp setup in what Hyundai calls the C of Creta like setup flanked by a big cascade grille. Lower down you get an all new bumper with rectangular turn indicators and halogen fog lights.
The side profile looks distinct with the neat styling, but having said that the silver coloured panel that rises up from just behind the rear door and vanishes into the front of the car does look interesting especially on the black, red and blue coloured cars, while the floating roof adds to the mass of the car. There are also integrated roof rails on offer, lower side skid plate and 17-inch alloy wheels on offer.
The rear however has a different story to tell with plenty of cuts and creases neatly designed into the tailgate. The split taillamp setup gets LED treatment too and is connected by a blacked out panel that also houses a brake warning light, while lower down the bumper gets dual tone treatment with a skid plate and a blacked out portion as well.
The interior is a big leap ahead as well; the dashboard sports an all new design which has a fresh appearance and comes finished in black and beige dual tone colour scheme. Taking pride in the cabin is the 10.25 inch touchscreen infortainment system that is integrated well into the dashboard, a four spoke flat bottomed steering wheel that feels great to hold and the tough build AC vents which have a solid feel to them. The instrument cluster on the automatic is an all digital unit and changes colours according to the drive models selected.
In terms of features it gets a panoramic sunroof, LED headlights, LED taillights, 17-inch alloy wheels, air purifier, 8-way power adjustable driver seat, 10-inch touchscreen infortainment system, digital instrument cluster, leatherette upholstered seats, ambient lighting, air purifier, rear sunshade, wireless charging, ventilated seats at front and an amazing sounding 8-speaker Bose sound system.
The Blu Link feature on the Creta is said to be a far advanced feature that the one that debuted on the Venue. It boats of offering 50+ connectivity features, many of which are voice enabled or can be controlled from the Smartphone app.
Powering the second generation Creta however are three engine options; a 1.5 litre petrol and diesel along with a 1.4 litre turbo GDI petrol engine as well. The 1.5 litre petrol puts out 115hp and 14.7kgm of torque, while the 1.5 litre diesel produces 115hp and 25.5 kgm of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and torque converter automatic.
There’s also a 1.4 litre GDI petrol motor on offer, it makes 140ps and 24.7kgm of torque, but what sweetens the deal further is the presence of a 7-speed dual clutch automatic with paddle shifters.
On the safety front, it gets electronic parking brake (for auto only), driver rear view monitor, tyre pressure monitor, ABS with EDB, 6 airbags, Electronic stability control, rear wheel disc brakes, rear parking sensors, rear parking camera, vehicle stability control, hill assist control, buglar alarm and an Emergency stop signal. The new Creta also gets what Hyundai calls a strong AHSS body structure which can is said to be made of higher strength steel and stronger materials.
Buyers can also choose between 10 exciting paint schemes including Polar white, Typhoon silver, Phantom black, Lava orange, Titan grey, Deep forest (turbo only), Galaxy blue and new Mulberry red. On the dual tone side Polar White with Phantom Black and Lava Orange with Phantom Black are on the options list.
As a lifetime partner and beyond, the Korean automaker is offering a comprehensive warranty package with wonder warranty options. Owners will benefit from 3 Years/unlimited kms or 4 years/60 000kms or 5 years/50 000 kms. Also on offer is 3 Years – Road-Side Assistance, Blue Link Subscription and Map Updates along with 15th Day Home Visit (Shubhaarambh).
Talking about competition, the new Hyundai Creta takes on the Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier and Mahindra XUV500.
