Skoda Auto has driven a new variant of the Rapid in the Indian market known as the Rapid Rider Plus. The new variant priced at Rs 7.99 lakhs (ex showroom prices) and sits above the Rider edition in the Rapid line-up.
Stung by the unanticipated overwhelming response received for the Rapid Rider edition by the Indian consumers, Skoda had to stop accepting bookings altogether. However the automaker has introduced a new variant called the Rapid Rider Plus that comes with more features and paint options like Toffee brown and Candy white, Carbon steel and Brilliant silver.
The most noticeable is the addition of a 6.5 inch touchscreen infotainment system; the system comes with Smartlink connectivity Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well. The Rapid Rider Plus also comes with automatic A/C, one touch up and down function for the A/C, window chrome garnish, trunk lip spoiler and rear parking sensors.
The new Rapid Rider Plus also gets black strip on doors, blacked out b pillars, blacked out boot lip spoiler, chrome garnish for window line and boot-lid. On the inside you get ebony & sand interiors with ivory slate upholstery.
Powering the Rapid Rider Plus is the same 1.0 litre TSI petrol engine which produces 108hp and 175 Nm of torque and comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and delivers 18.97kmpl.
Talking about the safety front, Skoda has equipped the car with dual airbags, anti-lock braking system, engine immobilizer with floating code system, rough road package and Parktronic rear parking sensors.
Skoda is also gearing up to introduce a 6-speed automatic transmission in the 2020 Rapid line-up. The launch is expected to be around September this year and when launched it will come strapped to the same 1.0 TSI petrol motor is uses currently.
