Skoda Scala debuts at world premiere

Skoda Auto has officially premiered the Scala hatchback at the world debut internationally. Not to be confused with the model sold in India, the Scala is the Czech car manufacturer first hatchback

The new Skoda Scala employs a new design an all new design language known as emotive design language. In terms of appearance, the car gets a long bonnet and a large grille upfront flanked by sharp and slim headlights. The side profile holds a shoulder line that rises from the front wheel arch and vanishes into the taillamps. At the back, the rear glass extends into the tailgate and holds Skoda’s new branding strategy that holds the Skoda branding in bold letters instead of the logo along with slim LED taillamps.

Built on the MQB-AO platform, Skoda’s Scala hatchback offers incredible space despite its compact dimensions. The new compact model numbers 4,362 in length, 1,793 in height and 1,471 in height. Boot space stands at 462 litres which doubles up to 1,410 litres once the seats fold down. Skoda says the wheelbase measuring 2, 649mm has resulted in 73 of extra knee room for passengers seated on the back seat.

Seeking inspiration from the Vision X RS Concept and emotive design language, the interior receives a black and beige colour trim with chrome highlights. The dashboard houses a 9.2 inch free standing infotainment system that comes with in-built E-sim card offering a wide range of connect online services. It also gets a redesigned instrument cluster and Skoda’s virtual cockpit.

Powering the Scala are range of three petrol and one diesel engines The petrol range consists of 95 PS 1.0 litre TSI mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, a 115 PS 1.0 litre TSI mated to a 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox as an option and a 150 PS 1.0 litre TSI mated to a 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG gearbox.

The diesel on the other hand employs a single 115 PS 1.6 TDi motor that comes mated to a 6-speed manual as standard, with the 7-speed DSG sold as optional extra. Safety aspect hasn’t been left untouched by the Czech manufacturer has loaded the Scala with Crew protect assist, nine airbags, Multi collision brake and Emergency call assist.
