Tata Motors launches Intra mini-truck priced at Rs 5.35 lakhs

Tata Motors has after much delay launched the Intra mini-truck priced at Rs 5.35 lakhs (ex showroom prices). Positioned as a premium offering Intra will sit above the Ace in Tata’s mini-truck range.

Commenting on the launch of Tata INTRA vehicles, Mr. Girish Wagh, President – Commercial Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, “The customer preferences are shifting everyday towards better performance, advanced features and higher returns. After a thorough research, we learnt about the growing aspirations of the new age customers. These insights have helped us conceptualize and develop the Tata INTRA. It is ideal for customers who want to upgrade their commercial vehicles for higher business returns and lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), enabled by proven and reliable aggregates and driving comfort leading to longer, fatigue free drives. We have always led the industry and created new sub-segments to create demand. The launch of India’s first compact truck, fills an important gap in the Indian SCV market and we are bringing yet another game-changing product after our much successful product Tata ACE. ”

Built on a hydro formed frame, Intra is sold in two variants V10 and V20, and comes with best in class load body length of 2512 x 1602mm. Tata Motors is also offering boltable full forward robust body shell cabin and has been intelligently designed with a smart looking nose. The cabin comes with smartly designed car like interiors with sufficient storage capacity and comfortable seating. The Intra also rides on 14-inch steel wheels with dual tone wheel caps offered as optional extra.

Modern features on-board the Intra include mobile charging point, electronic instrument cluster, big headlamps, emergency locking retractrator seatbelts, large windscreen, lockable glovebox, storage on dashboard and door trims. It also gets pre-fitted music system and AC on the premium version ensuring a fatigue free driving experience. The dash mounted gearlever makes long driving experience comfortable and tireless to live with, while the headrest boosts the levels of comfort for the driver.

The homegrown automaker has designed Intra with improved ergonomics and low noise vibration levels along with front and rear rigid axles with leaf springs thus ensuring superior load carrying capability and low cost of maintenance.

Powering the mini-truck is a BS6 scalable 1400cc V10 engine and 800cc V20 diesel engines offering quick acceleration, faster trips and low turnaround time. The vehicle also comes with standard power steering fitment and low turning radius of 4.75m thus achieving easy manoeuvrability even on narrow and congested roads. Transmission duties are handled by a 5-speed gearbox with cable shift mechanism offering a pleasurable driving experience.

Tata’s new Intra is expected to give the Mahindra Supro and Mahindra Bolero pickup a tough time ahead.
