Tata Motors has long kept the consumers waiting for the BS6 range of its commercial vehicles to hit the market. However among the long list was the BS6 spec Ultra bus which has just been unveiled at the ongoing 2020 Auto Expo in Delhi.
Hot on its heels the 2020 Tata Ultra has evolved from its original look into a more modern design. The face gets a redesigned front fascia with longer glass and vertically placed headlights that are connected on both ends with a thick chrome bar. It also gets a sportier bumper with small enclosures which have provision for daytime running lights.
The side profile is more or less unchanged and is easily recognizable as an Ultra with the only change being the new single piece automatically controlled glass entry/exit passenger door. The driver door too has been redesigned with a curvier design and also has a quarter glass area for better visibility. The rear too has been redesigned and flaunts a curvy design with an edgier rear glass and show. It also gets curved taillamps with red surround.
On the inside the cabin has been completely redesigned with a new dashboard with more driver oriented design with controls placed closer to the driver. The driver seat is now pneumatic which should add to the comfort and reduce fatigue while driving.
Powering the bus is a BS6 spec diesel engine with 750Nm of torque and 6-speed AMT gearbox, while a 6-speed manual should also be on offer.
The Tata Ultra built by Marcopolo bus body builders which is a subsidiary of Tata Motors itself is a runaway success for the kind of features, comfort and easy driveability it offers. How much of success will the BS6 spec redesigned Ultra bus achieve time will tell.
