Tata Nexon Electric debuts, launch in 2020

Tata Motors has today unveiled the Nexon Electric SUV in the Indian market. The Electric Nexon is an aspirational SUV for personal car buyers looking for a thrilling connected driving experience with zero emissions.

Buyers can purchase the new Nexon electric in three trims – XZ, XZ+ Lux and XM, The automaker has hinted at a sub Rs 15-17 lakhs price tag for the Nexon Electric upon launch early next year. The car will also come in three paint schemes which include – Glacier white, Moonlight silver and Signature Teal blue. Additionally it will also come in dual tone paint schemes as well.

The Nexon EV sports an updated exterior and interior that in a sense resembles the facelift expected for the standard Nexon sometime later. Coming to the Nexon EV, it doesn’t shy too far away from the standard Nexon in profile; however it gets a redesigned front end which gets a new flatter bonnet, new black front grille and edgier projector headlights with daytime running lights. The bumper is new to and holds restyled fog lamp encloses and an air dam that are of course EV exclusive. The rear however receives a reworked tailgate along with upgraded taillamp elements and a new bumper as well.

On the inside, the vehicle comes with the same interior with high quality materials and bits on offer. But the cabin is now finished in beige and black interior colour scheme. Tata Motors has also ensured that several bits in the cabin come finished off in blue that reminds that the car is an EV.

Powering the car is powerful and highly effiencent permanent AC magnet motor that churns out 129 PS and 245Nm of torque. The Nexon EV can accelerate from standstill to 100 kmph in 9.9 seconds and confirms to IP-67 standards of rating. Also on offer are two drive modes – Drive and Sport which uses smart drive technology and regenerative braking to juice up the battery while coasting.

Charging the Nexon EV can be replenished to 80% charge from a fast DC charger in 60 minutes. The electric compact SUV can also be charged by using any 15 amp plug point that will take 8-hours to charge the top. The Nexon EV is also said to deliver close to 300kms driving range, however a confirmed figure is yet to be announced. Carrying on the shoulders of its standard counterpart, the Nexon EV retains all the learning’s from Global NCAP and comes with class leading safety features.

Adding an icing to the already tempting cake however is Tata’s promise of 8-years or 1, 60,000kms warranty on the battery and the motor (depending whichever is earlier). Bookings for the homegrown automaker’s electric SUV have also begun through select Tata Motors dealers or online on the company’s website.
