Toyota is busy gearing for the launch of the Glanza hatchback with last minute testing and TVC shoots being the order of the day, however this time around the premium hatchback has been spied during a TVC shoot in Goa by Rushlane.
Said to be a badge engineered version of the hugely popular Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the Glanza sports no sheet metal differences from the car it is based on; accept for a different front grille upfront and Toyota logos.
The interior too is expected to be a carryover from the Baleno, with the same colour schemes, dashboard design and equipment on offer. The only real differentiation could be the Toyota logo on the steering wheel and a possible different interface for the Touchscreen infortainment system.
Powering the Glanza will be the same engines as the Baleno, however whether the power and torque figures will be identical is unclear, also there are rumours of Toyota plonking in the recently launched 1.2 litre Dualjet engine paired to a mild hybrid motor in its iteration of the Baleno as well. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual for now. The Glanza will not be offered with a diesel engine option and will be petrol only.
Where most of the design and interior look similar to the Baleno, Toyota will have an edge by going one step forward and offering a longer warranty period of 3 years/ 1,00.000 kms against the Baleno’s 2 year/40,000kms warranty package offered.
The Toyota Glanza is set for a 6th of June launch which is when prices will be announced as well. The Glanza will rival the upcoming Tata Altroz, Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno.
