Toyota has finally launched the Glanza in the Indian market. The premium hatchback has also been launched in Goa by Sharayu Toyota the dealers for Toyota in Goa.
The Japanese automaker has said that the Glanza name is derived from a German word which means Brilliancy/ Radiance/ Sparkle. True to its name, this new hatchback is specially designed keeping the youth customer in mind “who likes to outshine in the society”. The car was also recently spotted doing rounds in Goa for its television commercial shoot. Buyers have the option of getting their Glanza in two variants – G and V which are equivalent to the Baleno’s Zeta and Alpha trims.
The Glanza shares its basic design and body with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno save for a few cosmetic differences to its soft parts. The Glanza gets a new chrome grille with Toyota logo upfront and shares the same Toyota logo elsewhere on the alloy wheels and rear bootlid as well. The interior of the Glanza too is shared with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, with the only differentiation being Toyota logo at the steering wheel, while the rest of the cabin is unchanged.
In terms of features, the Glanza gets LED projector headlamps with daytime running lights, diamond cut alloy wheels, Auto A/C, Automatic headlamps, follow me home headlamps, Electro chrome inner rear view mirror, 60:40 split rear seats, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, interactive TFT multi information display, Reverse parking camera. Interestingly the Glanza is the first Toyota to receive Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in-car connectivity.
Under the hood, the Glanza is powered by petrol engines only as there is no diesel on offer. The base G trim is powered by the 1.2 litre K12N engine making 89 bhp and 113 Nm of torque, this engine comes mated to a mild hybrid setup. On the flipside the V trim gets the same engine but puts out 82 bhp and 113 Nm of torque.
Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and 7-speed CVT. The Glanza’s fuel economy figures are rated at 19.56kmpl for the CVT automatic, 21.01 for the V MT and 23.87 kmpl for the G MT with mild hybrid.
Safety continues to be a top priority with Toyota and it reflects on the Glanza as well. The hatchback is equipeied with ABS with EBD, SRS Airbag, Brake Assist and an Anti-pinch driver window. Also part of the safety package is Total Effective Control Technology Body that absorbs effective shocks and disperses crash energy thus ensuring increased safety for all occupants.
Toyota also scores an upper hand with the Glanza by offering 3 years/100kms standard warranty that can be extended upto 5 year/220K kms against the Baleno’s 2 year/40,000kms warranty package.
The Glanza will go head to head with its arch rival the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and other competitors such as Honda Jazz and Hyundai Elite i20. Buyers also have the option of choosing between 5 exciting exterior colors – Café White, Sporting Red, Insta Blue, Gaming Grey and Enticing Silver.
