Toyota has launched the new generation Camry in India priced at Rs 36, 95,000 (ex showroom Pune). The new Camry hybrid is cheaper than the outgoing model by a fair margin; however one must note that the prices are introductory for now.
Built up on the latest TNGA platform, the latest iteration of the Camry sports a design which is much more aggressive than before. The face is made up of a bold front grille flanked by large sweptback LED headlamps and a massive we repeat massive air dam. Moving to the side profile, there’s a thick shoulder line that begins from the front door and runs across to the rear. Taking inspiration from the sharp front end, the rear of the car too gets its share of sharp details in the form of a sporty boot spoiler and sleek LED taillamps. The Camry rides on 18-inch alloy wheels
Step inside the new Camry and you will be stunned by the sight of how the cabin looks. The dashboard has been completely redesigned and follows a new V design that harmoniously blends thoughtful functionality with contempary looks. The centre console houses an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with physical buttons for certain controls. A brand new three spoke steering wheel takes care to steer the car and gets steering mounted controls as well, the instrument cluster however is a 7-inch and it does get head’s up display too.
Features and technology is what Toyota has packed the latest Camry in plenty, it comes with goodies such as 3 LED daytime running lights, LED fog lamps, electrically adjustable hydrophilic wing mirrors with wide view and reverse link. It also gets smart entry with push button, 9 speaker JBL audio speakers with Clari-FI technology, rear reclining seats with touch panel in armrest, front ventilated seats, rear sunshade with manual door sunshades, wireless charger, electronic parking brake along with tilt and slide moonroof.
Powering the large executive sedan however is the same 2.5 litre 4-cylinder petrol motor that is good enough to produce 178 PS at 5,700rpm and 221 Nm of torque at 3,600- 5,200rpm. The engine is coupled to a hybrid system that puts out 118bhp and 202 Nm of torque. Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed CVT gearbox with economy figures standing at 23.27 kmpl which is impressive for a car of this size.
Being a Toyota and by its standards, the Camry comes loaded with safety features with as many as 9 SRS airbags, vehicle stability control, brake hold, electronic brake force distribution and ISOFIX top tether anchor for child seats.
Speaking of the competition, the Toyota Camry hybrid takes on the Skoda Super, Volkswagen Passat and Honda Accord hybrid. Toyota sells the Camry in 7 exciting paint schemes namely Graphite metallic, Platinum white pearl, silver metallic, burning black, Red mica, phantom brown and Attitude black.
