Toyota Urban Cruiser launched in India for Rs 8.40 lakhs

Toyota Kisloskar has launched the new Urban Cruiser in the Indian market for Rs 8.40 lakhs (ex showroom prices). The automaker had earlier also opened bookings for the compact SUV at Rs 11.000 which could be done either through the website or by paying a visit to the dealership.

Buyers can buy the Urban Cruiser in three variants – Mid, High and Premium which are equivalent to the Vitara Brezza’s Vxi trims onwards. Toyota is also offering 6 single tone and 3 dual tone paint scheme options. The single tone include Rustic brown, Sunny white, Iconic grey, Suave silver, Groovy Orange and Spunky blue, whereas the dual tone include Spunky blue with sizzling black roof, Groovy orange with sunny white roof and Rustic brown with sizzling black roof.

Known proudly as a rebadged Vitara Brezza from the Maruti Suzuki stable, the Urban Cruiser carries the same overall design and character, however it does get some substantial changes that just a badge swap. For starters there’s a Fortuner inspired front grille and a more masculine design for the bumper. There’s also full LED lighting package which includes LED headlights, LED fog lights, LED daytime running lights, LED rear taillights and LED high mount stop light.

The interior of the Urban Cruiser is also the same in its basic approach along with the same black and grey interiors with chrome accents. However it does get premium dark brown fabric for the seat upholstery and a Toyota logo on the steering. In terms of features it gets auto wipers, cruise control, electric wing mirrors with auto retract, Automatic climate control, push button start/stop and 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels.

Mechanically the Toyota Urban is expected to be powered by the same 1.5 litre four cylinder petrol motor from the Brezza, however power and torque figures remain the same at 105hp and 138Nm.

Transmission options with a 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic. Economy figures for the manual remain the same at 17.03kmpl in manual, the automatic delivers higher response of 18.76kmpl courtesy the mild hybrid tech on offer.

Keeping safety in mind, Toyota’s new kid on the block comes equipped with electro chromic inner rear view mirror, ABS with EBD, hill hold assist, reverse parking camera and dual airbags.

Just how the Japanese automaker did with the Glanza, longer warranty along with attractive service packages will be the mainstay advantage over the Vitara Brezza. There’s the 3 years/ 1, 00,000 kms unmatched warranty as standard and 5 years/ 2, 00,000kms warranty as optional package.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser when launched will rival the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV 3OO, Hyundai Venue and Tata Nexon, apart from upcoming models like the Kia Sonnet, Renault Kigher and Nissan Magnite.
